How to deal with period leakage at night?

Nothing is more despairing that waking up to stains or even worse, a pool of blood in bed. Menstrual leakage at night is a pain and can make you feel extremely groggy in the morning. The accompanying cramps, bloating and fatigue can further worsen your mood. People who experience periods are quite familiar with this feeling and there is no reason to be ashamed.

Leaking heavily through the night is completely normal no matter how many periods you have experienced. Sometimes it is merely caused by the wrong sleeping position, otherwise, the use of the wrong sanitary product can be the culprit. Whatever may be the reason, there are ways to deal with period leakage at night. Read on to know some effective ways:

Pick the right underwear:  During this time of the month, you will want to wear your most comfortable underwear. A large underwear that covers you bottom well is the best pick as it can catch any leaks. It should also fit you extremely well. An underwear that is too big will lead to too much movement and in turn cause leakage. If you want to go the extra mile, wear another pair over the first. This will not only hold the inner panty in place, but also absorbs any possible leaks.

Pick the right sanitary pad or tampon: There are plenty of sanitary pads that are available today and you must choose one that is especially formulated for night wear. The ALWAYS Dreamzzz Nigh Sanitary pads are my favourite choice during period nights. They are formulated with a special comforting core that quickly absorbs and contains the menstrual flow. You can also choose a tampon if that’s what you prefer. Tampons contain the flow within the vagina and reduce the need to worry about leaks.

Sleep position: To break your bubble, there is no sleep position that will guarantee leakage free nights. However, sleeping on your side helps to relive cramps by taking off the pressure from the abdominal muscles. Next time you hit the bed when on your period, avoid laying on your abdomen as it worsen the cramps and squeeze out the menstrual flow.

Change the care product before sleeping: While you may be too tired too bother, it is best to wear a fresh product before laying on your bed. Wearing and already used up pad or tampon increases the risk of staining. Also, you will be sleeping for at least 6 to 8 hours at stretch. Wearing the same sanitary pad or tampon for more that 7 hours increases the risk of rashes and infections.

Use an old dark towel: If you are too concerned about staining your expensive mattress, use a dark old towel for extra protection. The safety layer must be place on your sheet before you lie down to sleep. An old towel works just fine and will help prevent a blood pool in your bed.

Move out of your bed gently: Are you one those people who quickly jump out of their bed upon waking up? Well, avoid doing so during that time of the month. Even if you haven’t leaked through the night, you must gently get out of bed. Jerking out bed can stain your underwear and mattress.

Hope these tips help you deal more efficiently with those horrific leaks at night.
